London's Nature Recovery

Posted: 9th March 2026

The Mayor of London has published the new Nature Recovery Strategy for London.  Kensal Green Cemetery is identified as and area of particular importance for biodiversity (at least that part within RBKC!).  To explore the strategy itself, try making a start at the Strategy web-page.  Good luck in that rabbit-warren.

One has to admire the ambition and logisitical effort which has gone into producing a single strategy for the whole of London.  Inevitably, though, at this stage, the response of local authorities and landowners is critical:  this is not a recipe for local groups to get stuck in.

At Kensal Green, the local authority and the landowner are not  one and the same organisation, nor do they share values and objectives as regards public benefit.  That may change if ownership of the Cemetery is transferred to a charity with a public benefit objective.  However, it seems likely that it will be a long wait before there is a local strategy agreed in which local people can get involved to assist nature recovery here.
